FAQ-1687 How to Update the Driver for the Prolific USB/Serial Adapter

COM PORT ASSIGNMENT PROBLEM ON REBOOT.

Some of the older drivers for the PROLIFIC brand USB/Serial connectors have a software bug that causes your com port to switch every time you reboot your computer.  This is a software glitch in their driver software but the recent software updates have resolved that problem.  With the new update the com port stays where it is assigned even if you reboot or restart your computer.

WHERE TO DOWNLOAD THE UPDATE
If you are using a USB/Serial adapter that uses the PROLIFIC drivers, then you can download a new driver from this URL:

Download New Prolific USB/Serial Adapter Driver

When you go to that page, select the STANDARD DRIVER.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Unplug your USB Serial Cord from the USB Port on your computer

  2. Download the new driver file from the link above and run it.

  3. Once the new driver software is installed you can plug your USB / Serial cord back into your computer.

HOW TO TEST THE DRIVER

After you have installed the new driver, go to Control Panel and then DEVICE MANAGER and then scroll down to PORTS COM & LPT.  You should see the USB Serial Adapter under that heading and it will show which com port it is on.  Then close all of your programs and reboot that computer.  When it comes back up check the DEVICE MANAGER again.  If the com port is the same and did not change then you are good to go.

*** IMPORTANT NOTE ***

Make sure that your Comm One Serial Call Capture is set to the correct com port or you could lose call records.  By loading this update, the com port will remain the same so you will capture calls automatically anytime you reboot or restart that computer.
