FAQ-1069 Maximum Serial Cable Length
MAXIMUM SERIAL CABLE LENGTH FOR CALL ACCOUNTING
The maximum length of an RS-232 connection depends upon the speed of the connection and the grade of cable. Generally, the maximum length is 50 feet. However, this can be increased by using a high-grade cable that shields the connection from interference. The lower the connection speed, usually the farther you can go with the connection. However, the longer the cable, the more prone the connection is to electronic interference and the risk of corrupting the data stream increases. As a rule, you want to use the best cable you can find over the shortest distance.
